Identity & Bank Validation
PayRetailers Merchant Validation Services
Overview
Identity Validation and Bank Validation are services that let merchants verify a customer's identity, and where applicable their bank account ownership, in real time against official records. Together they cover eight LATAM markets: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, and Peru.
Why is this important?
Each of these markets has its own national identity document and, where bank validation applies, its own account and banking conventions. These are the reference points regulators and payment schemes expect merchants to check before onboarding a customer or processing a payment. Validating them in real time helps merchants meet KYC obligations across markets, reduce fraud and chargebacks, and build trust with customers and partners in each country.
What problem does it solve?
Merchants operating across LATAM face the risk of onboarding customers with mismatched, invalid, underage, deceased, or suspended documents — whether through fraud, typos, or stolen identities — and of paying out to bank accounts that don't belong to the customer. Building and maintaining direct relationships with eight countries' worth of identity and banking data sources is impractical for most merchants. Identity and Bank Validation solve this by giving merchants a single, standardized way to get a clear pass/fail outcome per country, instead of requiring bespoke local integrations.
Key Benefits
• Real-time results: outcomes are returned immediately, with no waiting periods or follow-up steps required.
• Clear outcomes: every check results in a simple, unambiguous outcome, so merchants always know whether a customer or account passed, failed, or could not be validated.
• Country-specific detail: when a check does not pass, merchants receive a clear reason — for example, an invalid document, an underage customer, a deceased customer, or (specific to Brazil) a suspended CPF.
• Compliance support for Premium shops: Premium-plan shops can additionally receive indicators for politically exposed persons (PEPs) and their close associates, and for customers appearing on international sanctions or watch lists.
• Safe testing before go-live: merchants can verify their integration behaves correctly before processing real, billable checks.
Supported Countries
Identity validation
Merchants can validate customer identity documents in the following markets:
| Country | Document |
|---|---|
| Argentina | Documento Nacional de Identidad (DNI) |
| Brazil | Cadastro de Pessoas Físicas (CPF) |
| Chile | Rol Único Tributario (RUT) |
| Colombia | Cédula de Ciudadanía (CC) |
| Costa Rica | Cédula de Identidad (CI) |
| Ecuador | Cédula de Identidad (CED) |
| Mexico | CURP (identity) |
| Peru | Documento Nacional de Identidad (DNI) |
Bank account validation
Merchants can validate that a customer owns the bank account they provided in the following markets: Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, and Peru.
Note: Brazil and Costa Rica are supported for identity validation only — bank account validation is not yet available for these two markets.
Integration
Each merchant's account must be set up by PayRetailers with the specific validation services and countries they need — not every merchant has every country enabled. A testing environment is available so merchants can confirm everything works as expected before going live with real customer checks.
