Documento de Identitad as mandatory API field for Peru

To be in compliance with the local requirements of our partners, from 02/01/2024 personal ID (Documento de Identitad) and CE (Carné de Identidad Para Extranjeros) for Peru will be mandatory and will be validated before processing the payment.

In Peru, the Documento Nacional de Identidad (DNI) is the primary identification document issued to citizens and residents. This national ID card is a crucial piece of identification that is used in various official and commercial transactions. Characteristics of the Documento Nacional de Identidad (DNI):

  1. Name:
    The official name of the national identification document is "Documento Nacional de Identidad," commonly referred to as the DNI. It serves as the principal form of identification for Peruvian citizens and residents.

  2. Identification Number:
    The DNI typically features a unique identification number with eight digits. This number is essential for identifying individuals and is used in various administrative and legal processes.

  3. Personal Information:
    The DNI contains essential personal details, including the individual's full name, date of birth, gender, and a photograph. Additionally, the card may include other relevant information such as the person's nationality.

  4. Address and Marital Status:
    Depending on the version of the DNI, it may also include the cardholder's address and marital status. These details provide a comprehensive profile of the individual.

  5. Security Features:
    To prevent counterfeiting and ensure authenticity, the DNI incorporates various security features. These may include holographic elements, watermarks, and other advanced security measures.

The structure of the identification number on the Peruvian DNI is as follows:

  • The first two digits represent the department code where the DNI was issued.
  • The next six digits represent the individual's unique identification number within the department.
  • The final digit is a verification digit calculated based on the preceding digits, serving as a check for the validity of the identification number.
