Cédula de identidad as mandatory API field for Costa Rica

To be in compliance with the local requirements of our partners, from 31/08/2023 personal identifiers (Cédula de identidad) will be mandatory and will be validated before processing the payment.

The Cédula de identidad is an identification document used in Costa Rica. The cédula number is a unique identification code assigned to each individual.

When processing payments, it's crucial to validate the entered cédula number to ensure accuracy. The cédula number should contain a total of nine digits and the first digit should be between 1 and 9, as this first digit is assigned depeding on the pronvince that the costa ricans were born, examples of digits for each province:

1 .- Born in the province of San José.
2 .- Born in the province of Alajuela.
3 .- Born in the province of Cartago.
4 .- Born in the province of Heredia.
5 .- Born in the province of Guanacaste.
6 .- Born in the province of Puntarenas.
7 .- Born in the province of Limón.
8 .- Costa Rican by naturalization.
9 .- Special Birth Certificate (special cases such as late registration of births)
